Keeping Toolbars

Okay here is a problem I have run into a couple of times.

I customize the excel toolbars, taking out icons I don't use, adding the ones I use a lot, and adding some macros.

However, when I get a new job, or a new pc, or as in the case yesterday, a new hardrive on the pc at work, those custom jobs are lost.

Is there anyway to save them and reinstall on excel?

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
Search your C drive for the location of the "*.xlb" file. Everytime Excel closes it updates the xlb file with your modified toolbar settings. At least this is the way it works in XL97.

I periodically make a backup of mine with a little bat file:
Copy C:Winnt*.xlb H:Backup

If you delete the file completely, it will default to the original settings the next time Excel is opened. If you keep a copy of your xlb file handy, you can easily re-copy it if yours gets lost.

Imposing your toolbar settings on other users' machines may be a bit intrusive (I know I wouldn't appreciate that). I guess if you backup the users current "userx.xlb" settings and then put them back when you're done it's OK.

I s'pose it might even be possible to create an addin "toolbar manager" style application that could save and retrieve multiple toolbar "views". I'd have to think about it a bit more. Maybe someone's already built one? I haven't looked that far into it.

Thanks very much. It is just "my machine" at work so its just a matter of resetting if I leave.
