Hi all,

I've recently been involved in collating and analysing data for a large survey with open questions. I've had to manually go through the responses and note down any trends of types of people and what they said. eg 'majority of 50 year olds said blue was the best but felt a bit colder, whereas some 50 year olds preferred red... Some 20 year olds like computers with a slightly large and brighter frame that didn't cause shadows' (these weren't actually the responses).

I was wondering, for the future, if there is a way to automate this, or at the very least make it less manually intensive? As these are open questions it will be unlikely that any 2 are identical, but numerous answers will contain the same type of response, if that makes sense?

The responses to each question are always downloaded from the surveys into Excel form, so whatever i do has to be done via Excel.

Any ideas or help would be very welcome.

Thanks.
