Hey,

I am wanting to create a game using Excel that I can use via Zoom with people (I will be administrating the game from my end, and they will be answering via Zoom video chat).
What I am trying to do is create 5 letter words in which they will spell out a word and if the letters match in specific order, the word turns green (much like the UK gameshow currently on ITV, and used to be in USA about 10 years ago - link to USA wikipedia version complete with graphic to help understand what I am trying to do).

Below is a screenshot of my page (the squares are "Merged & Center").
What I am wanting to do, and I tried with conditional formatting (it kind of worked but had issues where if they said an answer like India, India has 2 I's and would highlight both I's despite only 1 being correct and the other being incorrect for the answer being China (only 1 i)), is get the boxes to highlight Green if the letter is correct AND in the right place, or Orange if its correct but in the WRONG place.
I was thinking of maybe using a macro, where once I have typed in the letters I press a macro ready button and it reveals which are correct. But I am absolutely useless as macros despite attempting a course a couple years ago. I am also thinking this might actually be easier.

If anyone is able to help me get around the issue of not highlighting the same letter twice despite it only being correct once, that would be much much appreciated.
This is for a game show round of a family quiz we have done to keep family who are separated by 100s of miles (even 1000's in one persons case) connected.
Many many thanks for reading and hopefully being able to help.

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
Hi. I love the idea - I've often thought about how playing games would help families during lockdown, and so would be keen to help out. I understand the concept of the game, I think (reminds me of Mastermind - need to work out the correct arrangment of colour pegs - correct order), but in the example you gave re: India (guess) and China (solution) what would the expected formatting output be (i.e., where there are two 'i's)?
