Here are some examples of what should be entered into Column G.
The student from row 7 should have a 5 entered because he's in class 11 and his max is 305.

The student in row 6 should have a 0 entered because he weighs less than 135 AND maxed less than his body weight.

The student in row 8 should have a 1 entered because he weighs less than 135 BUT maxed at least his body weight.

I hope this makes more sense than my explanation in the thread, Entering an entire table in one cell....

Thanks again.

Scott

ETA: If you want people who max less than their weight to be listed as zero, try this:
PHP:

Excel Facts

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
Sorry Scott, edited last post and part of the formula got lost

PHP:
=IF(ISERROR(MATCH(F5,INDEX('Ironman Table'!$C$12:$F$16,,MATCH(C5,'Ironman Table'!$C$11:$F$11)))),IF(F5<E5,0,1),MATCH(F5,INDEX('Ironman Table'!$C$12:$F$16,,MATCH(C5,'Ironman Table'!$C$11:$F$11))))

Seems to work with your error examples, I got 3 for 183 BW 180 Max and 2 for the others (based on class 9 scores)

Using the table in Sal's last reply, his results in G, my results in F (using formula in reply #22)

Hopefully if we carry on like this one of us will come up with what you need :)

I've spent maybe too long looking at your tables and the stuff Sal came up with, comparing results, now I'm not sure if I'm seeing errors that don't exist.

My current take on this is if a kid benches 135 or more then they get the points on the table (weight rounded down).

If their bodyweight is less than 135 then they get 1 point for benching between their bodyweight and 135, less than bodyweight nothing.

If that's correct then I think this has cracked it!

Scott, ignore the formula for G15 in my previous reply, I tried to cut the table size down before posting it so that formula doesn't relate to the cell, the other 2 are correct.

Sal, with reference to PM, I can see your thinking for reducing the formula length, but if you look at the way the logic works, the bodyweight / max ratio is only checked if the match returns N/A, doing the BW/max check first would give errors. Is what you suggested still possible taking this into consideration?

Sorry Scott, edited last post and part of the formula got lost

This formula gave the 163 lb kid with a 160 lb bench, as well as the kid who weighed 159 and benched 140, 5 pts.
My current take on this is if a kid benches 135 or more then they get the points on the table (weight rounded down).

If their bodyweight is less than bodyweight nothing.
Yes, this is the problem we're facing.

Looking at your "Sheet 3" table. I see two problems, the kids from rows 18 (H18) and 29 (H29) should not receive 0 points. H18 should receive 1 point (in 12th grade and max is between 135 and 190) and H29 should receive 2 pts (in 12th grade and max is between 190 and 240).

You're close though.

This formula gave the 163 lb kid with a 160 lb bench, as well as the kid who weighed 159 and benched 140, 5 pts.

Scott, think you were looking at Sal's figures (Column G) instead of mine (Column H). I had 1 for (H18) and 2 for (H29)

163kid 160bench class9 1 point
159kid 140bench class9 1 point.

All these figures came from the last formula / table set.

If you're still not getting correct result, check the cell references on my samples against your sheet, my errors before were caused by the formula being set to the wrong row in 1 point.

Hold on, I noticed that the cells are different from your Ironman Table than mine. I'm using the formula from your post where you mentioned you lost some of it during copy and paste. I've made the correction to mine and am in the process of double checking the numbers.

Yes, I was. The formula I just tried (lost in copy and paste) didn't work, probably why you created another formula....

I'm retrying your last formula (G13 and G14) and checking the cells.
