How can I determine the median if I have the following column setup.

counts score
50 10
10 3
30 7
20 6

therefore in the example the median should be a score of: 7

thanks.

Excel Facts

Test for Multiple Conditions in IF?
Use AND(test, test, test, test) or OR(test, test, test, ...) as the logical_test argument of IF.
Hi Sharkie21,

I could be way off the mark, but why wouldn't...

=MEDIAN(B1:B4)

...work?

Assuming you can sort (ascending) by column B so that table looks like this
<TABLE style="WIDTH: 96pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=128 border=0 x:str><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 48pt" span=2 width=64><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl23 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=64 height=17>counts</TD><TD class=xl23 id=td_post_1548114 style="BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=64>score</TD></TR>

I can't sort. It will screw up some things. Any other formula?

Without sorting try

=MEDIAN(LOOKUP(ROW(INDIRECT("1:"&SUM(A2:A5))),SUBTOTAL(9,OFFSET(A1,,,ROW(A2:A5)-ROW(A2)+1))+1,B2:B5))

needs to be confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER
