I received a spreadsheet and the "merge cells" is greyed out via:

select several adjacent cells, select Format / Cells / Allignment
Merge Cells is not selectable.

There are NO hidden colums or rows, there is no password needed.

Please advice

Excel Facts

Create a Pivot Table on a Map
If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).
Could the worksheet/cells be protected? I believe the newer versions of excel let you protect different features independently

One of the cells in the range you are selecting has already been merged. Select each cell seperatley to find the merged cell, then unselect merged and then remeregw the new range.
