Hi guys... microsoft query although useful is also very annoying and slow to modify.

I have spreadsheets that pull data out of an SQL server 2008 DB using microsoft query and every time I want to edit the SQL it insists on running the query when it opens. How do I turn this off? I want to run the query only once I've exited MS Query by refreshing in excel.

Excel Facts

Create a Pivot Table on a Map
If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).
Check out the datarange properties (right-click anywhere in the query table) and uncheck refresh on open.

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood. What Excel version are you using? If 2007 or 2010, you can edit the SQL directly from Excel in those versions, without the need to use MSQuery at all. FOr 2003 and before, check out my query manager:

This is brilliant. Took me a while to figure out where to find it but I got there in the end under the "Tools" menu. Thanks so much!!
