ok i asked a similar question about an hour ago, but this is where it gets really complicated...

again, i cant fully explain it in words, but here is a picture...

xcell2-1.jpg

the idea is that column A will be filled with a list of 10,000+ entries. basically, everything in that list needs to be organized with the system expressed in the picture (5 per row going down).

i dont think a simple formula will cut it but a macro possibly will. unfortunately i have 0 experience in that area. plz help me out.

i really appreciate it, thank you.

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
You're right, that's not going to be easy in a formula...
Here's a macro

Code:
Sub test()

LR = Cells(Rows.Count, "A").End(xlUp).Row
y = 3
z = 1
For i = 1 To LR
    Cells(z, y).Value = Cells(i, "A").Value
    y = y + 1
    If y = 8 Then
        y = 3
        z = z + 1
    End If
Next i

End Sub

press ALT + F11 - that opens the VBA window

Click Insert - Module

Paste it there...

Now you can go to tools - macro - macros
select test and click run
