This is easy I know but I have two values. I have the price our customer paid for an item and the discount. I need the original price.
So I have an item we sold for $80 that was discounted 20% how can I get the price? Well I can easily calculate this one to be $100 because $100 X 20% = $80.
In Algebra it is 0.2*Y=80 and solve for Y
Another problem I have is that the discount percentage will always change for each record so some can be 20% other can be 25% etc. How can I get this in Excel? Right now Column A has the discount percentage and column B has the sale price paid. Column C is blan and I need original price paid.
Thanks for the quick response but that doesn't work because in my example if you take $80 (Cell B2 and sale price) and divide that by 20% (A2 or discount rate) you get 400. The correct answer should be 100.
I don't know how to use Solver but I wonder if that will work here. I will enable and see if I can figure it out using that tool.
Works great thanks! I also found another way creating an inverse % rate in another column by taking the discount rate -1 and then multiply by -1 then using JackDanIce's formula. Both work but yours is cleaner.
