Need Help creating a formula

Is there a formula that can be created that can take a range of data, a total and pull out which part of the range of data makes up the total?

For example the data range is a list of 15 different dollar amounts. The total is a sum of a combination of the dollar amounts. The formula created would show which cells would be combined to create the total?

Does it make sense?
