Need help in converting values to numbers

hey guys,

i receive reports that contains numbers, and all i do is a simple SUM formula, it doesnt seem to work because my they said the format might not be in numbers. To fix it manually, i hit F2 then enter. Problem is, its about a 1000 or more rows. Help please?

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).

Select a blank cell, Edit>Copy, select all the cells/column/rows/whatever with 'numbers and goto Edit>Paste Special..., select Add from the Operation section.

If that doesn't convert them to 'real' numbers then there maybe some errant non-printing characters that need to be dealt with.
