Number format keeps switching to date format

Hi there,

I have an Excel 2010 spreadsheet where the default number format keeps switching to the date format. I keep switching it back and it'll stay as a number format for a time, but then it'll switch back. This is also the case for any new worksheets in that one spreadsheet.

This only happens with this one file - everything else behaves according to my regional settings or to how the file had been previously formatted.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
Is it an .xlsx or an .xlsm file, ie are thaer any macros that might upset the applecart?

Hi there,

Nope, no macros - it's just an .xlsx file. I double-checked to make sure that there was no code attached somehow, and couldn't see anything.

Thanks!

I can also be bothered by Excel's too smart way of trying to trun everything into dates, and then i format the cell as normal, type in a entry below it, bham, dates aggain. frustrating. But once formatted as normal, it doesn't change back to date or so.
