office clipboard problem

An Excel file that I have copied & pasted items to from Notepad w/o any prob's does not now work.
Previously I would Select All in Notepad & Copy, then PasteValues as Text into Excel. When I try now, for some reason the Paste & PasteSpecial options are greyed out & I have sometimes got a msg "cannot empty office clipboard". When I open the office clipboard pane it appears empty.

Hope someone can help.
Cheers,
Scoobyblue

Excel Facts

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.
Think this is sorted now. I logged off & downloaded latest MS Office Updates, re-booted and am now able to copy & paste without any problems.
