I work in a school and I have created a spreadsheet that asks for a password to allow people to modify it but will allow read only for anyone else.

However, for some people this box is not appearing and the spreadsheet is opening directly as read only.

Any clues as to how to solve this would be helpful.

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
It appears that you are using VBA and a custom UserForm to do this. Remember that none of this will happen if the user has not enabled VBA.

Please show all your code and tell us what module(s) it is in.

I have now found out that this is due to folder access to the where the spreadsheet is saved.
