Picking from one of three choices

Can anyone help.
I have two sheets Sheet1 has d1 with either one two or three in it cell a1 have "fred" in it" b1 have "mary" c1 have tim"
Sheet2 has d1=Sheet1!d1 if d1 has two showing the answer in a1 needs to show "mary" therefore choosing the middle number from my list on sheet1
Hope this makes sense thanks in advance for any help
