Hello Forum - i have a production scheduling spreadsheet that has color fill on each line to indicate a range of times that have been calculated (it shows as a color bar on a calendar of weekdays - say 2pm on Wed thru 6pm on Thu). It's all working fine, but now I want to be able to place a text string over the first colored cell with information about the production batch. Easy enough to do with a formula BUT the subsequent cells with their formulas prevent the text string from overrunning the cell boundary which, of course, truncates the string. Note that there is only one color bar on each line so there won't be "interference" out to the right. I expect i need a macro or maybe a self-limiting array formula that will leave all cells empty except the one i'm placing the text into so that the text will show completely.

Please help. thanks. dgr

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
one other note... it would be nice to have the text box appear automatically after the appropriate cells are filled rather than having to execute a macro by tapping a macro button. thanks. dgr
