Hello!

I'm trying to find out a formula to resolve this table:

I have a Company (Column A) and a Product (Column B).

Column A:

Company

EGK
AET
AMB
ABB
EGK
EGK
AMB
ABB
EGK
EGK

Column B:

Product

Forks
Forks
Spoons
Knifes
Forks
Knifes
Dishes
Spoons
Spoons
Dishes

I want to find how many unique products exists for each company.
I tried several formulas which work with different types of products, but having the same products for many companies seems to be more difficult.

Could somebody help me?

A1:B11 houses the sample of company/product associations, the headers included and the range in D a list of the relevant companies.

E2, control+shift+enter, not just enter, and copy down:
Rich (BB code):

  MATCH("~"&$B$2:$B$11,$B$2:$B$11&"",0))),
   ROW($B$2:$B$11)-ROW($B$2)+1),1))

If there are no chars with special meaning around the B-entries, the "~"& and &"" can safely be removed.

If we select the bin term, expressed as

ROW($B$2:$B$11)-ROW($B$2)+1

and apply F9 to that selection on the formula bar, we get:

{1;2;3;4;5;6;7;8;9;10}

This is an expression we often use to construct an integer array starting at 1.

The conditional MATCH bit yields for EGK:

{1;FALSE;FALSE;FALSE;1;4;FALSE;FALSE;3;7}

Mapping these integers onto the bin term as FREQUENCY effects it, we get:

{2;0;1;1;0;0;1;0;0;0;0}

Mapping every non-zero integer from the foregoing onto a 1 and summing these mappings we get: 4.
