Prevent auto-reformat of shapes with cell references

I'm trying to remember if there is a way to prevent a shape from auto-reformatting when I update the cell reference it is linked to.

For example, I have a text box that contains the reference ='[Driver1]YoY Delta'!$C$1. I have been copying tabs from one workbook to another, so when it comes time to work on workbook for Driver2, I will go in and edit the cell reference to be ='[Driver2]YoY Delta'!$C$1.

I have applied some formatting to this text box. However, when I adjust the formula the formatting reverts back to a default and I have to keep reformatting.

Is there a way to make the original formatting stick? Thanks.

The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
