columns. Basically I would like just one cell (possibly A1) where I could insert a number - it would then produce a number of pieces of information from other worksheets and put them in the relevant cells. This is all working well but I would like to be able to block and protect all other cells apart from A1 so that when I enter a number in that cell and press return it will accept this number but not be allowed to moved onto a different cell meaning that I could just keep entering numbers in this cell without the need to keep arrowing back.
Hope I have explained what I'm trying to achieve and would be very grateful of any ideas.

Right click A1 and choose Format Cells. On the Protection tab uncheck Locked and click OK. Now protect the worksheet (Tools|Protection|Protect Sheet).

Thanks for your speedy reply Andrew. This protects the worksheet fine and leaves A1 to be edited. I had thought that there was a way of blocking the cursor from entering any other cell than just A1 - at the moment, if I insert a number into A1 and press return I move onto A2 and although it won't allow me to make any changes in that cell, I still have to go back to A1 using the up arrow.

Tools|Options|Edit tab, uncheck 'Move selection after enter'. You can also uncheck 'Select locked cells' when you protect the worksheet.

Hi Andrew - that sounds as if it is going to be just what I want but at the moment I'm being rather thick and not able to navigate to where I need to be. I'm using Excel 2007 but where do I find "Tools"? Is this the same as Excel Options? I cant see any tab running accross the top named "tools" - I have Home, Insert, Page Layout, Formulas, Date, Review, View, Developer and Add ins. Could you point me in the right direction please?
