Reading XML in Excel 2003

I have an XML file in which I refer to a schema which is already written. But when I open the XML file in Excel I get silly "ns1:" prefixes before all my element names e.g. ns1:FirstName, ns1:LastName

Does anyone know how to get rid of these during the opening operation or do I need to put something in my XML/XSD/Spreadsheet first?
