Referencing a Formula and not a attribute

I have a bunch of data which looks to perform a particular formula upon looking at a bin of attributes. If it is attribute "A through C" it does this formula and if it is attribute "D-R" without any crossover. Is it easier to look via a normal excel function or using visual basic? I'm not too experienced with visual basic but I am open to ideas. Please help. Thank you for your time.
