Remove last 4 digits of a 7 to 9 digit number

In column 'A' I have the number 54260012. In column 'B' I want all the digits except the last four (0012), giving me 5426. The same would apply whether the original number was 7, 8 or 9 digits long. eg:

54260012 would be 5426

876650120 would be 87665

7790001 would be 779


Any suggestions for accomplishing this without using vba?
