I am trying to do edit replace for cells that have values like :: 12345***s

when I try and do the edit replace to get rid of the ***S portion with balnk the whole thing is replaced with a blank because of the *** is there a way around it so i can replace so it ends up with just whatever comes before the ***S portion (the end result could vary from anywhere between 5 and 10 char)

Excel Facts

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.
Use the squiggle on the top left of your keyboard to indicate a literal asterisk or question mark, otherwise Excel considers them wildcards.<ul>[*]~*[*]~?
Or do you mean you need<ul>[*]=left(A1,Len(A1)-4)) ?
In which case use a temporary helper column with that formula, then paste values over the top and the cut and paste over the top of your original values.
