Running total as payments are made

Hi one and all, I could do a very large nestled if function (that is about the extent of my talent), but I am sure some of you legends will know an easier way.
We have a spreadsheet to check off the EFTPOS payments as they hit the clubs bank account.
So G2 is Sunday (day 1) and G8 then being Saturday (day 7). So as the payments come in we have to change the calculation in G12 (paid) and G13 (waiting).
What is the best way to make the G12 and G13 cells auto calculate by adding a Y to cell B2 to B8 as the payment comes in.
So if the payment comes in for Sunday and Monday and I place a Y in cell B2 and B3 the calculation in cell G12 would be the sum of G2 and G3, and the calculation in cell G13 would be the sum of G4 to G8.
