Search for First Cell with Data

I have cells Y38 to Y4 in a spreadsheet that contain formulas that produce a sum if there is data in another part of the spread sheet. I wan to search from the bottom of the range (Y38) and find the first time a calculation is performed so that the spreadsheet can populate cells in a column offset to the first found cell.

I have searched this forum an d the web and can not find a way to find the first non blank cell in a range.

If there's no data in the other part of the worksheet, does the formula return 0 or a null string (formula blank "")?
