I am trying to allow users to only edit (type in) one column of an excel file, but still be allowed to sort and filter the rest of the workbook. I have check marked the below, but for some reason, it STILL won't allow the sort option, but is allowing to filter. Am I doing something wrong?

Excel Facts

How can you turn a range sideways?
Copy the range. Select a blank cell. Right-click, Paste Special, then choose Transpose.
The sort checkbox is a bit misleading. It allows sorting only of unlocked cells, and only with the Sort command (not the Autofilter dropdown). Filtering is allowed because it changes only the view; the data is not changed.

You can't prevent users from changing data but allow them to sort the same data, unless you implement it with VBA. The VBA would unprotect the sheet, do the sort, the re-protect the sheet.

Thank you so much for that explanation. That makes sense now.
