Slicer Function From Multiple Data Sets

I've been trying to apply the methods described in the Mr Excel You Tube video linked below to get multiple two pivot tables from different source (but with a common field) to be controlled by a single slicer. I believe I've followed all the steps correctly:

Created pivot tables and added them to the Data Model.
Established validated connections between both tables and a third "controlling" table with single, unique values and created a slicer against the "controlling" pivot table.
Validated that the Slicer Connections include both of the pivot tables I want linked to the slicer.

Nevertheless, only one of the two pivot tables is changing when I modify the slicer selection. Is there a "gotcha" I've missed? The video URL is below.
