SMALL function with criteria

Hello all

I am doing results for a Road Running Relay. I have to find out the fastest runner in each leg of the relay. I can do that with the SMALL function =SMALL(I2:I56,1) but as its a mixed sex race I need to find the fastest man and the fastest woman
can anybody help me

You can obtain desired results by building a pivot table from your data. If you're interested in a formula system, post a small sample in the follow up.

Thanks for your reply. I would prefer a formula rather than a pivot table if possible. My fastest leg result is in Column L. Hope you can help.
