We have a group of 24 golfers going on a golf trip for 3 days. I would like to create a spreadsheet where I can enter in the names of the golfers with their handicaps and with the push of a button have the spreadsheet create 6 teams where the top 6 handicapped (low number) golfers lead each team and the rest of the teams are filled in so the total handicaps for each team are close to equal.

Example: Golfer A =6, Golfer B = 8, Golfer C = 8, Golfer D = 10, equals a total of 32
Golfer E = 5, Golfer F = 7, Golfer G = 12, Golfer H = 8 equals a total of 32
Golfer I = 5, Golfer J = 10, Golfer K = 10, Golfer L = 7 equals a total of 32
Golfer M = 7, Golfer N = 7, Golfer O = 8, Golfer P = 11 equals a total of 33 and this continues for 24 golfers
Golfer A would not play with B, C, or D again on the 2nd or 3rd day.
Golfer E would not play with F, G, or H again on the 2nd or 3rd day..
Golfer I would not play with J, K, or L again on the 2nd or 3rd day.
Golfer M would not play with N, O, or P again on the 2nd or 3rd day and this would continue with all 24 golfers. The totals for each foursome would still total close to the same so each team is of equal talent.

Another option is to enter the names of the golfers with their handicaps entered so there is a list of 12 "A" golfers and 12 "B" golfers. With the push of a button, 6 teams are created with 2 "A" golfers are on each team and 2 "B" golfers are on each team with the total handicaps about the same for each team.
Another requirement I would like is to make sure no two golfers are golfing together more than 1 day. For example, if Joe is golfing with Bob on day one, he won't be golfing with him again on day 2 or day 3.
Is this possible? Can it be modified for more foursomes?
Thanks for any help.

Hi golfnut1,

I think that with only 24 golfers, you could have given us the 24 actual handicaps that you want us to work with, as opposed the examples as posted. It does not matter if it is Golfer A - Golfer X, as long the handicaps are accurate.

I don't know that I have a solution, but I would like to able to manipulate the real numbers.
