Sorting issues

I had a list of numbers from 1-100 in column A in no particular order. When I went to sort it this is how it was sorted:
1
*10
2
*20
3
4
5
6
7
8
9

How can I set Excel to sort it in numerical order?

Your numbers must be text entries that look like numbers. To quickly convert them, select the column, choose Data|Text To Columns from the menu and click Finish.
