How can I get this function to properly work?

{(T(IF(Sheet1!b4,"text data",sheet1!b16))}

it only returns #VALUE!

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Take out the comma after B4= and don't use curly parenthesis.

It worked for me when i place "text data" in B4 and had a string in B16.

=(T(IF(Sheet1!B4="text data",Sheet1!B16)))

Hi abso1...

Welcome to MrExcel Board!

How about describing 1) what you are trying to do, and 2) what entries are in cells B4 and B16 of Sheet1!
