Too many different cell formats

I have a spreadsheet of only one page but I get the messagebox "Too many different cell formats" each time I try to change the format of that page.

Apart from the page being pale blue in colour and several of the cells being formatted for dollars and others for percentages there is no unusual formatting taking place on the page.

How can I recify the problem?

Thanks - your help would be appreciated.

Excel Facts

Copy a format multiple times
Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop
One other cause could be that you have inherited this sheet from someone who went gungho on creating new formats. For example, if you/they had numbers set to two decimals and wanted to increase the decimals to 10, if you use the increase decimals button on the toolbar, you have just created eight additional formats.

Have a look at Format/Cells and see if there are copious formats you do not need. If you do, those could be blocking you too. The solution, unfortunately, is to delete each one manually. Also, you may inadvertantly delete a format you do need, in which case those cells will revert to General and you will have to format them again later.
