Anyone have any good resources for user interface inspiration or design specifics. It doesn't have to be specific to excel.

Holy cow, that question could apply to anything from aardvarks to zebras in terms of what interface would "inspire" you or any developer. What you should be asking from the other side of the fence is, seeing that no two projects are alike due to user skills, project scope, nature of the project or what have you, is the one opinion that really matters -- what does the end user want and what's best for *them*? Flip through any Excel book at a bookstore for different looks you can design. If you present the end user with 10 different designs you'll get 10 different opinions so it's you that needs to settle on one based on your experience and understanding of what works best for that client, for that project.
