It is always a pleasure reading the comments from everyone, I have learned a lot.

I have an issue with a spreadsheet trying to access two files that no longer exist.

I have three excel files: FileA, FileB and FileC

FileC has vLookup formula's in it that point to FileB. FileB has vLookups in it that point to FileA.

When I try to open FileC, I get a message saying "unable to open... filename" two files that no longer exists. This message did not occur before I added the vLookups pointing FileC to FileB.

But, FileB does not have this issue, nor does FileA. I have searched words, formula's, names and hidden worksheets in FileA and FileB and can find no reference to the "unable to open" files.

Where else can I look to try to find these files and get rid of the broken links in FileC.

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
Thank you for the quick answer, sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I wanted to make sure I was not wasting your time.

I copied the spreadsheet to a new location and, following the directions in the User Tips document:
1.) The links, broken or not, do not appear in the links box. Only one link appears there, and that is the one that I want.
2.) I deleted all "Names" - no impact, links are still requested on open
3.) I deleted all anciallary spreadsheets, including those hidden - no impact, links are still requested on open
4.) There were no custom views defined.

I have learned a lot trying to resolve this issue, but it is still occurring.

Any additional thoughts? I would appreciate it very much!
