Unique Text Formula Help Needed

Hello All - I am looking for a formula that would be in column B and marks the first unique text in column A as 1, and all duplicates as 0. I had a this formula work in a previous document, but I no longer have the document to reference the formula. An example below:

Col A Col B
Shelly 1
Shelly 0
Joan 1
Shelly 0
Jacob 1
Joan 0

I really appreciate your help!

=--(COUNTIF(A$1:A1,A1)=1)
