Hi

In VBA there are 4 possible values for UpdateLinks when opening a workbook. I'd be grateful if someone could explain the difference between a "remote" reference and an "external" reference.

The help file defines the values as:
0 Doesn't update any references
1 Updates external references but not remote references
2 Updates remote references but not external references
3 Updates both remote and external references

Regards

Will

Excel Facts

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
External Reference is one to another Excel workbook.

Remote Reference is to data in an external application (not Excel) that can use DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange).

eg. Copying in Word, then using Edit/Paste Special/Paste Link
pastes a picture in Excel with formula like :-

=Word.Document.8|'F:\temp\Abcde.doc'!'!OLE_LINK1'
