I found John Walkenbach's tip on how to add argument descriptions to a user-defined function, but it does not seem to work for me.
Spreadsheet Page Excel Tips: User-Defined Function Argument Descriptions In Excel 2010

After the 'description assignment macro' is run, the details become available when the function is selected from the formula drop down list. However, what is NOT available is a description of the function when the function is just typed into a cell. Is there a way to add this description? Can this be done with the UI Editor for a custom function available in an add-in?

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
The dialog appears if you do Ctrl+A immediately after typing the open paren:

=myFunc(

There's no way to get tooltips like those for built-in functions.

Thanks shg, for the tip.
Totally surprised that Microsoft does not make this possible (like a supertip for a menu button.)
