Using RSLinx Classic Gateway to DDE to Excel

I am trying to link data from a PLC program to an Excel spreadsheet. As I follow the procedures, I go to Paste Special in Excel, select Paste Link, and Unicode Text. When I select OK the spreadsheet becomes unresponsive.

I have tried to paste: Unicode Text and the text appears in the selected cell. I suspect that Excel cannot establish a link with the PLC program but don't know for certain.

Any suggestions?
 

Excel Facts
