Hello,

I have a complicated question I have been trying to figure out for hours. I would like a formula for O4 that will look in Column C for the date in N4. Then when it finds it it references the Grow Room number that it was found in, which is located in Column B.

Excel Facts

How to fill five years of quarters?
Type 1Q-2023 in a cell. Grab the fill handle and drag down or right. After 4Q-2023, Excel will jump to 1Q-2024. Dash can be any character.
Look into using XLOOKUP instead of VLOOKUP.

Hope that helps,

Doug

Probably not much. Care to be a bit more specific, rather than being totally vague.

No this doesn’t really help. Nice to know it can search via rows instead of columns but I still can’t get it to work.

Perhaps something like this:

Excel Formula:
=XLOOKUP(N4,$C$4:$C$10,$B$4:$B$10,"")

Be sure to adjust the ranges to fit your data.

I don't think it is "totally vague" Fluff. I believe that XLOOKUP will do what the OP is trying to do. If anyone were to Google XLOOKUP they would probably get loads of great references on how to use it. I believe that it is sometimes best to point someone in the right direction rather than giving them a complete formula that they still will not understand.

I find it hard to believe that you don't know XLOOKUP. Try google, ExcelJet, and Chandoo...there are great examples everywhere if you know what to search for...

I am well aware of how to use xlookup, but you are missing the point, the OP (who is asking for help) does not as can be seen by post#4

Hello, thank you for your reply. The formula is very close however it is giving me a return of "Pinched" instead of the Grow Room number.
