Very Simple operation, is it a pivot table?

lets say I have column A

it says

Animals
dog
dog
cat
cat
cat
owl
owl
dog

I want to put a little drop down on the top, so when I click it it opens with the three variations, and lets say I choose dog, then it only shows dog below

what is the simple formula to do this??

yes use pivot:

Select your data range >> click on insert tab [xl 2007] insert pivot table > select new sheet...

Drag around fields etc and practice and u'll get it...
or watch youtube videos.

Im a 2003 user, but I guess Ill just have to bite the bullet and install my 2007 CD I have laying around

not really a fan of the ribbon thing, but Im assuming there is something good about the new version

yep, all the best. no doubt for me, version 12 [xl 2007] is much better then 2003.
