VLookup, Match/Index, Column Offsets and Sumifs functions

Hi all -

I have a good handle on the workings of VLookups but when consultants troop through here its all Match/Index, Column Offsets, and Sumifs. Could someone please explain to me the difference and efficiencies of these methods and when to use them. It might be I don't know what I don't know.
