Vlookup

When I attempt to do a vlookup for a member's id it doesn't work unless I go in the workbook where I am looking and hit F2 on the cell and the number changes from a left indent to a right indent and the vooliup works. I have 4000+ cells and would like a shortcut rather than hitting the f2 button on every cell. Thanks for your help.

{=VLOOKUP(TRIM(A1),TRIM($B$1:$C$18),2,0)}

If the IDs are all numbers, you might want to make sure that those IDs are being read by Excel as numbers and not as Text.
Multiplying them by 1, might do the trick. The Trim code above is also a good help.

=VLOOKUP(TRIM(A1*1),TRIM($B$1:$C$18),2,0)
