Warning promt prior to overtyping data

Is there a way of alerting a user that they are about to type into a cell already containing data.

I have a protected spreadsheet with unlocked cells. I have applied validation to the unlocked cells to limit the input to a specific range. Once data has been entered into the unlocked cells it shouldn't need to be altered unless a wrong figure has been entered.

I don't want to 'prevent' them from overtyping the data but warn them they are 'about to' overtype data.

Is this at all possible?
