What is this format: ge \r\al

Using the Portuguese version of Excel, I notice that Excel creates a custom format: ge \r \al. My values end up displaying "1900ral" and I don't know why (spoken with the accent of the guy who did Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous)

Any idea why this format is being used?

It turns out "Geral" is Portuguese for "General". I have some code that is trying format a range as General and suspect there's a language / culture mismatch somewhere.
