slowed right down.
It does contain a number of VLOOKUP formulas and other simple adding and multiplying but for some reason, even on a simple adding of half a dozen cells it is taking 5 or so seconds to complete the task when it has been virtually instant previously. I'm wondering if I have inadvertently put in a formula that it doesn't recognise but I would have thought it wouldn't have accepted it in the first place.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
Sort by date Sort by votes
Can you show some of your VLOOKUP formulae? For exmaple
Code: 
=VLOOKUP(A1,C:E,2,0)
Will run slower than
Code: 
=VLOOKUP(A1,$C$1:$E$500,2,0)
Although an even faster version is:
Code: 
=INDEX($C$1:$E$500,MATCH(A1,$C$1:$E$500,0),2)

Hi Jack - Herewith one of the vlookup fomula that I have used - I'm wondering whether your 3rd option might be best for me but I've always tended to use the formulas I know!
cell:
=VLOOKUP($A59,'Spec Numbers'!A$1:$P$196,5,)

Altho the new VLOOKUP will help tremendously but if you have ALOT of cells/data, it will become slower and slower.

Try going into Excel Options -> Formulas -> Workbook Calculation to Manual.

To calculate the excel workbook, you will need to press F9 (it calculates all sheets)

Kpark91 - Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry to be so thick but where do I see the calculation? When I press F9 I do not see any calculation!

If you have set the workbook calculation to Manual, when you press F9, some values will change (instantaneously) if you have changed any values that are being calculated that is :P
