Default How Do I count Votes For a particular perseon in excel?

    Hi All,

We have recently run a competition on our website which requires the user to vote for one of 17 cocktails.

Votes have come in thick and fast (1200 at the last count)

The trouble is our mechanic does not count the votes, only showing a list of which cocktail has been voted for e.g.:

    Cocktail A
    Cocktail C
    Cocktail B
    Cocktail B
    Cocktail A
    Cocktail A

Is there a way of taking this table into excell and having it count how many A's, B's and C's there are?

I tried looking at =SUMPRODUCT(C1:C1500=G2) where G2 is the name of Cokctail A.

Can anyone help this poor novice Excel user?!

    Try

    =SUMIF(C1:C1500,G2)

Please test any code on a copy of your workbook.

    Hi,

    Try:

    =COUNTIF(C1:C1500,G2)

    use apivot table.
    cocktail = row field
count of cockttail = data field

there is a wizard to help if you don't know about pivot tables
    (under 'data' menu)
    Using Excel 2002

You can use a pivot table (explained in www.ExcelVideoTips.com) or the Countif function

    =COUNTIF(B10:B15,"Cocktail A")
