Hi,

I have set up a table that will be used as the table for data to go when it is first imported from Excel. However, when i try to append more data using the append to existing table option it won't allow me to uncheck the first row contains column headings option.

Excel Facts

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
When importing into an existing table the source data's first row must contain headings so that Access can know which field is which. Note that in databases, unlike Excel, the order of things like records and fields (rows and columns) should be considered arbitrary and not relied on.

My company just transitioned from 2003 (yeah, I know) and my old workbook didn't need the column heading to retrieve the data, so what I'm hearing is that the new version does. I can't understand that philosophy.

I don't have 2003 installed, so I can't test to be sure we're talking about the same exact thing. But if that's true, then I'm confused too.

You could (and still can, I believe) import data into a new table without column headings but then column headings will be F1, F2, F3 ... , which isn't much fun to work with.
