Hi guys I am stuck with a form design.
I have several tables inclulding m:n tables and now I am about to start to build forms.
Because of the structure I am a bit confused how I am able to build forms.

Below is the link for the tables I like to build forms.
Hope someone could give me a hint of how to get started to make it work.

Many thanks

Excel Facts

Round to nearest half hour?
Use =MROUND(A2,"0:30") to round to nearest half hour. Use =CEILING(A2,"0:30") to round to next half hour.
I would start first by making the simple forms for your validation tables. Get a record or 2 or 3 in those tables then continue building on that foundation - testing all along the way.

Hi thanks for your reply.
Well I did try a few things but can not get it to work as I like.
I created a query and inserted to my form but when I like to enter a new record it tells me that I am not able to.
Of course I read up on things and have books but it never shows such complex table structures.

When you use a form to enter data, typically you're entering data into a single table. The error message is caused by the use of the query which uses more than 1 table. From what I say in the image, it looks like this is for a cell phone application of some kind?

So, perhaps we should start at the beginning. Do you have a form based only on "tblRabatt" for example? Does "tblRabatt" contain any data yet? "tblRabatt" appears to be a validation table for "tblKunderNr".

Hi again,
the aplication is for my business and ther tables in the selection are tools, manufactuerer, suppliers tool typs and modles with packaging units those models can be bought.
The reason behind the n:m tables is that we can buy tools from different supliers who buying those of a main suplier so few can have exactly the same models and sell those in different prices.
tblRabatt is what precentage of discount we are getting from a suplier.
tblKundenNr is the customer number the suplier has giving us.
I have no records in tblRabat but in the tools and Model and so on I do.
As I had those records already in some kind of database.
Hope it made it a bit more understandable.
But unfortunatelly I do not have those tables in english but I guess the relationships should be ok.

You're wanting a form from what you said, but a form to do what exactly? You said you've tried a few things but they've failed. Without knowing exactly what you want to accomplish, I am unable to provide you with additional advice.

What you would be doing is having a main form for the one side of the one-to-many or the appropriate side of a many-to-many and then on the other side of the relationship you use a SUBFORM which is linked to the main form by the ID of the Primary Key of the main table and the Foreign Key of the child table.

Hi Phil,
sorry! Well as I am still new to a complex database it is a bit hard to even know by myself I am affraid.
I would like to have all kind of compact so I can enter information to the form but also look up if the data is already in the database.
And that I am not even sure if it works like that.
In terms of tblRabatt it is a bitt more difficult again as one of my supplier has changed its discount terms around again.
He gives now different discounts to different models.
Other suppliers do it in general and some others have difference between if we are using it for own use or for resale.
But lets stick to one thing first. I did start of with a form for the tblWerkzeugTyp (ToolTyp) I created a dropdown list to select what typ it is.
Then to subforms (Werkzeug =Tools) and another with Model.
I can few the information but can not enter a new Tool nor model.
The problem is for me to understand what information I can have in a form and can I have a lookup together with a entry form.
Or does that need to be allways seperated?
As I said I have books but it shows me one or maximum of three tables but as I have more it is to complex for me :(
Hope that makes it a bit more clear?

Hi Bob,
thanks for your input!
So if I start of with tblHersteller as a main form and tblHerWerkzeug as the subform right?
Does main form should be from the table or a query?
Is it a difference? Is there one way better then the other?
And how can you link the other forms so you can get the disired information.. into the tables and to few.
Sorry for beeing a bit blond here I guess ;) but it does turn my head in a little.

I would love to see your relationships/table design but I can't since image shack and other public sharing sites are blocked by my workplace. Based on some of your comments, I am wondering if the design is spot on or not.
