Advance Mail Merge

At work I have to track volunteer hours for a bunch of people across several events. We then print out certificates for these individuals. At first I thought a simple Mail Merge would do the trick, but ran into some formatting issues. Then I went to access, but ease of data input would be an issue. So, here goes, I'd like to be able to mass print certificates based on the two documents. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.
