Allow Pasting Into Locked Worksheet Without Changing Formatting

I would like to be able to lock most of the cells in my Worksheet while still allowing users to paste data into certain unlocked entry cells. Is there a way to allow this without the changing the pre-set cell formatting (font, font size, cell borders)?

When I was researching this, the most common answer seemed to be to paste special as opposed to the standard Ctrl-V. However, I know that the users will have difficulty with this.

I've also read about using macros to reference a 'master cell' to reapply the desired formatting onto the altered cells. As I am not too familiar with writing macros, is there anyone who is able to tell me how this can be done?

And a secondary question: I know that merged cells tend to cause issues within Excel, but I'm wondering if it is possible to paste into merged cells without splitting the cells and duplicating the pasted data into each individual cell. I have found a way to to work around this, but it's rather inelegant and I would prefer if there is a different solution. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
